About Card Catalog
A catalog of every Pool we may open, run like a library.
Card Catalog is search-first, with every field people chose to fill in. It opens the Pools people and curators already keep, any one it may open, the way a browser opens any page. Its drawers are shortcuts by purpose: dating, friends, chosen family, mentors, trades, lending, music, climbing, game night, volunteering and the Kindling project. A Pool that fits none opens under its own name. Every field is free and searchable.

What it is
Look up the people you’re looking for, whatever you’re looking for them for.
A catalog of every Pool we may open: a finish carpenter, someone to lend a camp stove, a drummer for Friday, a belay partner for Saturday, a mentor who did it while working, a table for game night, someone to write slow letters to in Spanish. Dating is here too, in its own drawer, with every field a dating page can hold. A Pool opens in the drawer it fits, or under its own name.
Every field, free.
From the Pool file, for everyone: name, pronouns, place, about, their own tags, verification and messaging rules. From each person’s own page, where it has them: job, languages and interests, and in the Dating drawer everything a dating page says, down to the answers to the shared questions. None of it is paid.
What a card holds.
What the Pool file says, and what the page it points to says where it says more. When a filter would leave out cards that don’t have that field, we say how many and why, and you can turn it off. Nobody is sorted by what they didn’t say.
The order is stated.
Newest is the default, and we say so above every result: the last day each person said yes to a Pool in that drawer. You can choose Nearest or A to Z, and in Dating, Last active or Most answers in common. There is no hidden blend behind any of them.
Our rules
Two rules, and only two.
Rule 1
Every card shows the Pool’s name, charter and tags.
Rule 2
No one is shown as open to dating unless their own tags say so.
Those are the only rules we claim. Everything else is what the spec already asks of every reader, so we cite it rather than list it as ours: visibility §3.2, so an invite-only Pool is never read and an unlisted one only for a member or with its address; messaging and introductions §7, so a yes goes the way the Pool’s charter or governance says, through a curator or steward where it says so, and by each person’s own rules; and a site’s own word about its own Pool: Foul Weather Friends asks apps not to read The Check-In Circle, so we don’t, the way a browser leaves alone a site that asks not to be read.
The drawers are shortcuts, not gates. A Pool whose tags fit a drawer opens there. A Pool that fits none opens under its own name, in Other Pools, and a product loaded from the library shows under the product’s own name. Every card still names its own Pool.

The drawers are ready-made groupings by purpose, not gates. A card is one page, filed in one drawer, under every Pool of that drawer that lists it; a person in two drawers has a card in each. Any Pool that fits no drawer opens under its own name, in Other Pools. Each yes says what it is for.

Our own Pool is the Dating drawer’s home, and one Pool among the 67 we read.
“A drawer of cards, one for each person in Cascadia who asked for one, filed under every field they chose to fill in: city, age, faith, children, languages, height, what they are looking for, and any word on their own page. Search the way you like and sort the way you like; we rank nobody. When you find someone, mark their card. If they mark yours too, you can write.”
Universal opt-in. A card shows only what a person’s own page says. A blank field stays blank: we never guess anyone’s age, faith, gender or anything else, and nobody can search for a field someone left empty. Cards are refiled when a page changes. Reports go to the librarian at desk@cardcatalog.example. Leave in one tap; the card is pulled within a minute.
Where the money comes from
Members’ donations and a small grant. That’s all.
Card Catalog is a nonprofit. It is paid for by donations from members who want it to exist, and by a small grant. Every field, every drawer and every feature is the same for everyone, whether they give or not.
Nobody pays to be introduced, to see who said yes, or to be filed nearer the front. Nothing is charged at the connection layer; that is Kindling’s own rule §1.3.
If the money stops, we close, and you lose nothing: your cards live on your own pages, and every Pool we read is still there for Face Up, Heartwood, Sundial and anyone else.

What we read
Every Pool in the library, and where each one opens.
We read all 60 public Pools for everyone, and the 7 unlisted ones only for a member or for someone who gives us the address §3.2. We never read The Heron, Midspan Students, and The Check-In Circle: the first two are invite-only, and Foul Weather Friends asks apps not to read the third. Every other Pool opens, in the drawer it fits or under its own name. The people in them said yes to each Pool, not to us, and their own messaging rules travel with them. The call number is the drawer and the Pool’s place in it.

What we will never do
None of the tricks. A library couldn’t make them pay.

A nonprofit, paid for by donations and a small grant.
- No blurred yeses.We don’t hide who said yes to your card and sell the reveal.
Yeses is a full list, free, drawer by drawer, with their notes.
- No boosts, no streaks, no countdowns.Nobody can pay to be filed nearer the front, and nothing counts the days you opened the app.
The only clock is Kindling’s own: a Pool’s request lapses after 14 days.
The honest part
Why this couldn’t exist inside a closed app
A closed app is only as good as the people inside it, so a new one starts empty, and the one that owns the people is paid while you’re still looking. Kindling makes the Pools a commons. A catalog of every drawer is only possible because nobody’s drawer is locked.
One Pool, three ways.
A Pool is a page on its host’s own site, a JSON file anyone can read, and a card in any app that reads it. Every card here links to the other two. Drip Line’s Belay Partners is on Drip Line’s site, in its JSON, and in our Climbing drawer §3 §8.
Search opens full.
We opened with 236 cards from 67 Pools other people already keep. A new closed app opens empty; a Kindling app reads the Pools that exist §8.3.
Leaving costs nothing.
Your cards are read from your own pages, and your letters are email. Leave us and your people, your Pools and your conversations stay where they were §5.3 §6.1.
People and Pools set the rules.
Some people take a letter from anyone verified; some only after you both say yes. Some Pools ask a minimum sign-in; some make every introduction through a curator. We check each rule, Pool by Pool, before you write §7.2.
How to leave
One button, and you keep your people.
Open Leave in the app and press Leave Card Catalog. There’s no survey and no waiting period. We delete what was ours: your sign-in, saved searches, yeses and set-aside cards.
Your pages, your Pools, the addresses of the people you both said yes to, and your letters stay yours. Letters are email underneath §6.1. To take your card out of Card Catalog: Cascadia as well, pull it with one button; the Pool must act within sixty seconds §5.3.
